Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain how conditions created by varying training fire environments affect the thermal and chemical exposure risks of firefighters and fire instructors.
- Identify considerations for choosing training fire environments that create realistic training scenarios while also limiting chemical exposure to firefighters.
- Identify how fire instructors’ repeated participation during training scenarios may impact their level of chemical exposure more significantly than firefighters.

Prerequisites
A working knowledge of the thermal and chemical exposures associated with firefighting activities as well as how these exposures may contribute to firefighters' increased risk for cardiovascular events and certain types of cancers is needed to understand the content presented in this course. We encourage you to take the Foundations: Thermal and Chemical Exposures in the Fire Service lesson before completing this course.
