What is the FSRI Fire Safety Academy?

The FSRI Fire Safety Academy is an online learning platform developed for the delivery, administration, documentation, tracking, and reporting of educational materials developed to disseminate the research findings of FSRI and ultimately increase the knowledge of the fire service. 

What are the requirements to take a course?

The Fire Safety Academy is designed for the fire service, but registration is open to everyone. To create your free account, visit the SIGN-UP page. 

What are the technical requirements?

The Fire Safety Academy works best with the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari. It also works on mobile devices like tablets, iPhones, and Androids. If you are not sure if you are using the latest version, you can check your browser HERE

If you have the newest Firefox, update your browser settings to allow autoplay. 

How much do courses cost?

Our entire course library is offered at no cost to you or your organization. 

How long does each course take?

Courses vary in length, but most content is presented in bite-sized lessons. The average lesson takes 2-5 minutes to complete. Courses are made up of a series of lessons. 

Can I learn at my own pace?

Yes. You can start and stop lessons and courses at any time. Navigation within each lesson is learner controlled, so you can take as much time as you need to explore the data and review the concepts. 

How do I get started?

The Fire Safety Academy is designed for the fire service, but registration is open to everyone at no cost. To register, visit the SIGN-UP page and provide your name, a valid email address, and a password. A verification email will be automatically sent to the address provided. Once verified, this will become your username and can be used to access the Fire Safety Academy via the LOG-IN page.

Why should I update my profile?

Updating your profile information will provide the best user experience. It will allow you to connect to other members in your organization and assist in the tracking of online learning. This information will also be used to tailor future content to your needs. You can also OPT-IN to the UL FSRI quarterly newsletter. This is a great way to stay informed about the latest fire service research. 

Why do you need my organizational affiliation(s)?

In addition to offering training to individuals, the Fire Safety Academy is designed to allow training officers and other departmental officials to access and download member transcripts and gather training data. By self-identifying as a member of a specific organization you allow designated officials from your organization to track your training. 

What if my organization is not listed?

If you are affiliated with a U.S. fire service organization that is not listed please contact the HELP DESK.  Be sure to provide the official name of your organization, location, and Fire Department Identification Number (FDID) so that it can be added to the system.

If you are affiliated with a non-fire service organization or a non-U.S. fire service organization please contact the HELP DESK. Be sure to provide the official name of your organization, location, and the type of organization (i.e., academic institution, fire department, government agency) so that it can be added to the system.

Can I change my email address?

You can update your email address at any time by visiting the MY PROFILE page. Please note that it will take a few minutes for the change to process. We recommend waiting 5 minutes before attempting to log-in with your new credentials. 

How do I change my password?

You can change your password at any time by visiting the MY PROFILE page. You will need your current password in order to make any changes.

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it. From the LOG-IN page, click on "Forgot your password?" and enter your email address. You will receive a password reset link via email. It may take a few minutes to receive this email. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder as well.

Once you create a new password, you will be able to sign in with your new credentials from the LOG-IN page.

How do I access the online training courses?

The complete course library is available from the EXPLORE TRAINING page. Courses can be filtered by status and category via the drop-down menus.

Clicking a course will open the course detail page, which provides additional information about the course and a button to launch the training.

Where can I find my certificate?

The MY TRANSCRIPT tab lists all the courses for which you've received certificates, the completion date, and your score. Click the "Download" button next to each course to download the certificate. 

What is a Power User?

The Fire Safety Academy has a special user classification for those responsible for tracking an organization's training records called a Power User. Power Users can download transcripts for each member of their organization and view organizational training statistics. 

How do I become a Power User?

If you are responsible for tracking training within your organization, make sure you are affiliated with that organization in the MY PROFILE section. From the My Organizations page, click on the button to "Request Power User." Complete and submit the form. An Administrator will be in touch within 2 business days. Please be prepared to provide proof of affiliation and authorization to access organizational training records from the leadership of your organization. 

Can I deliver training to my department as a group?

As a company officer, training officer, or instructor, you can facilitate in-person delivery with a group of any size. You can watch lessons together and stop and start lessons to discuss how the concepts relate to your unique situation or how you might deploy the tactics on the fireground. At the conclusion of your training session, each participant can log in to their own account to complete the assessment and receive credit for the course.
